Overview
Methoxphenidine, also known as MXP, 2‑MeO‑diphenidine or 2‑methoxydiphenidine, is a synthetic diarylethylamine dissociative compound primarily used as a research chemical and forensic reference standard. First patented in 1989 for potential neuroprotective use, MXP emerged in the recreational market around 2013 as a purported replacement for methoxetamine (MXE) following UK restrictions on arylcyclohexylamine dissociatives.
Mechanism of Action
MXP primarily acts as an uncompetitive antagonist of the N‑methyl‑D‑aspartate receptor (NMDA‑R), binding to the PCP site and inhibiting excitatory glutamatergic signalling.
