What is Fluoxetine?
Generic Prozac also know as Flunil, with its active ingredient Fluoxetine, is a prominent antidepressant in the SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) class. It effectively treats depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and certain eating disorders by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, thus improving mood and emotional state.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Flunil include headaches, nausea, insomnia, fatigue, dry mouth, and sexual dysfunction. While these are usually mild, some individuals may experience severe side effects such as vision changes, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe dizziness, fainting, irregular heartbeat, or muscle weakness.
Warnings
Flunil should not be used in conjunction with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping them. Caution is advised for patients with bipolar disorder, liver disease, diabetes, seizures, low sodium levels, and those prone to bleeding.

How Should I Take This Medicine?
Flunil should be taken as prescribed by the doctor, and dosages should be strictly adhered to. The medicine is available in 20mg, 40mg and 60mg capsules, suitable for different treatment needs.
Dosing Information
The usual starting dose is 10 or 20 mg daily, with a maximum of 80 mg per day. Dosage adjustments depend on patient response and medical condition.
What Happens If I Miss a Dose?
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If it’s close to the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
What Happens If I Overdose?
Overdose symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, seizures, heart problems, lung problems, and signs of brain damage. Immediate medical attention is necessary in the event of an overdose.

Flunil can interact with other antidepressants, certain pain medications, St. John’s Wort, aspirin, blood thinners, and medicines to treat anxiety, mental illness, or seizures.
